Wikiii was a search interface that gave focused access to Wikipedia by returning relevant sections of articles rather than only whole articles.
Context
The prototype applied XML element retrieval research to Wikipedia, allowing a search query to lead directly to useful sections within relevant articles.
My role and contribution
Principal investigator. I developed the Lucene-based XML element retrieval engine used by Wikiii as part of my PhD research and adapted the interface from the student project XMLFind.
How it works
For a given query, Wikiii used the retrieval engine to identify and present the most relevant sections from relevant Wikipedia articles.
Outcome
The prototype applied focused, section-level retrieval to Wikipedia articles.
